2020-2022 - In their own words: diaries and ephemera of colonial women in the John Oxley Library collection

John Oxley Honorary Fellowship, 2020-22

The video below is the final Research Reveals presentation of my research, filmed at the State Library of Queensland in February 2022. The entire Fellowship project is currently being relocated to its own page on the public section of this website, and will be available from approximately late August 2023. From the original website:

This project began in September of 2020 with the aim of telling the story of three women of colonial Queensland who lead very different lives: the wives and mothers of politicians, farmers and colonial pioneers, whose stories if previously mentioned at all were as adjuncts to the lives of their male relations. Upon examining the resources available in the John Oxley Library archives it became obvious that the wealth of material available to produce the stories of the women of Queensland was far greater than first imagined, and that the project needed to be expanded. The original idea of presenting the results in a published book or journal paper form has also been superseded in favour of this website, as these are stories that should be told to as wide an audience as possible. This website exists in the space somewhere between a blog and an e-book, and is designed to introduce the people of Queensland and further afield to these stories first hand, to better get to know their ancestors and their history.
